Christmas Everywhere: My Holiday Decor Style

Baby Quirk enjoying the Christmas tree.Decorating for the Christmas season can be a chore, let’s just be honest! After all, this is the most wonderful time of the year, why not put a little extra into making your home look perfect for the holidays? I must admit, this isn’t a 10 step process to easy decorating or a list of short-cuts worth your while. This is merely my take on making the most of family and friends, enjoying my home throughout the holiday season!

Let’s be real for a minute: I was perhaps a touch overboard several years ago with three, yes three, different Christmas Trees throughout the home. We lit our driveway up like a runway and adorned each and every tree and shrub with lights. Fast-forwarding to 2017, I wanted this year to focus on time management and setting up my home to display a soft Christmas glow with a warm and inviting nod to Christmas decor.

Baby Quirk enjoying the Christmas tree. The main focus of my Christmas decorations starts in the formal living room. The soft, golden colors compliment my sofa and chairs in this particular room which allows for the entire room to become enveloped in the warm glow of the tree. This year I was meticulously placing plastic ornaments toward the bottom of the tree because, as you can see in the photo, my sweet little boy LOVES to play with the tree and all of its fascinating lights and ornaments. This room comes to life this time of the year with all the gorgeous garland and dancing lights. I find this space so inviting and enjoy sitting with a cup of coffee and catching up with family and friends who come to visit for the holidays.

Elizabeth Brumbaugh Quirk's holiday decor styleChristmas in my house wouldn’t be complete without this gorgeous, hand-carved nativity scene! I love having the antiqued mirrors in the background. It provides a way for the light to refract and provide a warmth around the entire scene. I place the nativity scene on an antique-replica console that I designed a few years back. The piece has gold-leaf throughout the raised portions, which provide dimension to the front panels and doors. This coloration acts as a great compliment to the tree and all the ornaments. I hung garland on the mantels with metallic gold leaves and lights strung throughout. I tried to keep it classy and simple and in cohesion with the rest of the decor.

When approaching what to do this year on the exterior of my house, I took the door method! I adorned the doors and that was about it! I carried over the same theme as the inside, gold ribbon, garland, bows, and lights. I love the way the lighted garland looks at night – it is so quaint and welcoming!

This is my version of Christmas decor for ’17! I found this year to be about making my decorations fit the furnishings of my home. It was all about capturing the warmth and feel of the holidays and in my opinion, I think it’s a success!
