Do you have plans for Valentine’s Day?
Valentine’s Day is coming up… cue the theme song from Jaws! Are you feeling unprepared? Join the club! If you are looking to make a reservation, let’s face it – you are probably too late. Box of chocolate? Better hurry, even the local drug stores are going to be picked over!
Did you know that over 180 million Valentine’s Day cards were purchased last year? Moreover, the average consumer spends $116 on just flowers or chocolate for this very day. In my opinion, Valentine’s has become such a selective couples’ holiday that the day as a whole is overlooked by many. This is probably the very reason that Halloween has become so popular; everyone is included and dressing up is super fun!
For 2018 I am approaching Cupid’s Day in a different manner!
At the end of the day, if you still don’t have plans, why not go with an amazing meal and quality time with family in your home? Spend the time to incorporate fun family recipes. Or, try making chocolate strawberries with the kiddos – it’s a fun activity to spend time together and make this a holiday inclusive versus exclusive.
Our Dining Room Decor
I love focusing on my dining room and the features that it entails. This is the room that I feel my family is best represented. It is a room that houses my Grandmother’s china, silver serving ware from my Mother, and the candlesticks from our wedding. (Side note: I love the way my China cabinet lights up at night, very subtle and elegant!) So, this Valentine’s, I am focusing on incorporating a family get-together around this very room.
This room has come together from its infantile state of being just a couple of pieces of scratch paper with random drawings of host and hostess chairs. I wanted this room to encapsulate the meaning of grandiose and really stand out from the rest of the house. The ornate carving and detail with fabric and leather combinations help to showcase this feeling. Love the detail and antique replica frame – very stately! Also, you can check out the same chair frame here!
This room is rather muted, but the rich jewel-toned chairs add a spark of color and detail that I personally love! These chairs are the muse for the room as a whole and I feel that they are the pulse of all the decor shown here. (You can read more about how to incorporate trendy jewel tones into your decor here.)
In addition, the hand-carved dining table makes family dinners and get-togethers super fun! This table, which you can find here, really stands out as you enter the room! I find this room so inviting and enjoyable for entertaining and I can really see my style exuding in every detail.
At the end of the day, I am looking forward to having a nice family dinner around our own dining table this Valentines Day! Our puppies are included too!
